“Broodmares are the foundation to your program. I generally emphasize deep quality of pedigree over performance. When considering a mare at auction I study the “Buyers Guides” in order to understand how well a mare/family is breeding. The following are an example of my philosophies”.

Since 1979 Nicoma Bloodstock has purchased 91 broodmares that have had offspring hit the racetrack after being purchased with some pretty impressive successes for our clients.

Since they were purchased by Nicoma Bloodstock:

• 13.2% of the mares produced a Grade 1 WINNER.
• 20.8 % of the mares produced an earner of Grade 1 blacktype.
• 26.3% of the mares produced a Graded Stakes WINNER.
• 36.2% of the mares produced an earner of Graded Stakes blacktype.
• 36.2% of the mares produced a Stakes WINNER.
• 52.7% of the mares produced a blacktype runner.

All of this was accomplished AFTER they were purchased by Nicoma Bloodstock on behalf of our clients.  Finding value in a mare before it becomes apparent to the rest of the marketplace is a hallmark of ours.

Nicoma was recognized in the November 5th 2004 MarketWatch as the #1 purchaser of dams of stake/graded stake winners at auction between 1996 – 2003. Anytime you are ranked at #1 it is an exceptional honor.

ARTIE SCHILLER’s emphatic win in the 2005 Breeders' Cup Mile was a proud day for us and a huge boost to the Nicoma program. ARTIE SCHILLER's dam Hidden Light was bought in 1996 for $190,000 as a barren mare, with Nicoma Bloodstock as agent for Haras du Mezeray. The third best runner of her year, it was our feeling that Hidden Light had not been mated to the stallions which would give her the best opportunity for success. Nicoma felt that El Prado provided all the necessary ingredients to help her produce a superior runner. 

ARTIE SCHILLER's accomplishments have proved us right. An added bonus was the fact that he was raised and sold by Mill Ridge Farm.
